What the site is for
Antivirus products are described and sold in a specialised vocabulary that is rarely explained. The aim here is to explain it: to give each term a clear definition, to show how terms relate to one another, and to point readers to the official New Zealand sources that deal with security, scams, privacy and consumer rights. The site is meant to be useful to someone who never buys anything through it.
How we decide what to cover, and in what order
We want to be exact about this, because it affects how you should read the site.
- Terms are chosen by how often they appear in product descriptions, operating system settings and official consumer guidance, and by how often they are confused with one another. A term earns an entry when a reader would plausibly meet it and need it explained.
- Pages are ordered by learning sequence, from general definitions to specific purchasing questions, not by commercial value.
- Product coverage is deliberately narrow. The site links to one product, Norton AntiVirus Plus, and it does so because the publisher has a commercial relationship with that product's affiliate programme. We do not claim to survey the market, we do not compare commercial products against one another, and we do not rank them. A reader looking for comparative performance data should consult independent testing organisations, as explained on the detection page.
- Product-specific statements are limited to the information supplied through the affiliate arrangement. Where that information does not cover a point, the site says so and refers you to the vendor, rather than filling the gap from elsewhere.
- General statements about law, regulation or official advice link directly to the government agency or official document concerned. Where we cannot point to such a source, the statement is written as general guidance.
- We do not test products. We have no laboratory, and we publish no scores, ratings, awards or reviews.
How the site is funded
The site's only income is affiliate commission. When a reader follows the link to Norton AntiVirus Plus and buys, the vendor pays a commission through an affiliate network. The affiliate disclosure page explains the arrangement in full. There is no advertising, no sponsored content, and no tracking on the site; the privacy policy and cookie policy set out exactly what is and is not recorded.
Corrections and review
Each page is reviewed against its linked sources, and the date of the most recent review is shown at the foot of every page. If you find a definition that is wrong, a link that no longer works, or an official source that has changed its position, please email info@luminaryspace.online. We correct factual errors as soon as we have checked them, and we do not alter content in response to requests from vendors.
What the site cannot do
We cannot examine your device, advise on a specific incident, or recommend a product for your circumstances. If something has gone wrong, the agencies listed on the scam terms page are the right first contacts.
